What can you class as being luxury in living rooms? We are going to be taking a look at contemporary style living room ideas that take things up a notch and make being within them all the more pleasurable and special. Everyone deserves added comfort and a few beautiful additions to take your living room to the next level.
The good news is that luxury doesn’t have to mean expensive or hard to achieve, even spoiling yourself with a few extra sofa cushions could be classed as luxury – whatever makes you feel special is luxury! Here are a few ideas to help you along with your living room makeovers.

- For the contemporary living room, luxury doesn’t have to mean having a lot of expensive furniture and decorative pieces. Luxury can also be the simplicity and comfort of the layout you choose. Modular furniture is modern and it can be arranged to suit your personal taste. Some of the sofas are so designed that you have a ’sitting’ section and a section where it is more common to lay back and put your feet up. Some even incorporate storage and adjoining side tables – having everything in one piece is very cushy. Add to this a beautiful white or cream woollen rug contrasting coloured blinds and stylish coffee table.
- Luxury definitely shows up in your choice of fabrics and materials. You might want to spend a little extra from your savings for a leather upholstered sofa or one covered with plush velvet or chenille. Alternatively, you could purchase some fabric at a cheaper price and make your own slip-covers. Sofa cushions using quality fabrics are another option if you are on a budget – look for those with a satin or silk finish. Generally, fabrics with more of a sheen or textured appearance have a more expensive look. Team sheer Roman blinds with curtains for an on-trend layered look.
- Give your contemporary living room that hotel vibe by dressing up your coffee table – and we don’t mean with coasters! If you have some interesting look-books they will look extremely cool placed casually on the coffee table. A glass or metallic finish tray with a matching vase and fresh flowers is also appealing. Don’t forget too, to place your tissues in a fancy box!
- Now that we have ripped out carpets and gone back to original wooden floorboards or laminate, adding a large rug to the living room is seen as having the best of both worlds. The best rugs are those that are used from natural materials and help to bring the room together with colour and pattern choice. Monochrome graphic prints or bright florals are two big trends this year.
- Anything with a metallic or glass finish is seen as up-scale in the living room. Some contemporary additions may include metal curtain poles, a glass-topped coffee table or metallic frames for wall art. Metallic finishes on fabrics such as brushed gold sofa cushions will also add opulence to your interiors.
