Luxury Living Room Ideas 1 – Traditional Style

August 19, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

Luxury living rooms are all about pushing forward with design and decorating for maximum visual beauty and comfort. Luxury depends on the individual home owner and what they see as being more indulgent as opposed to just having the basic needs. Your home is your pleasure – enjoy it!

The question is, what does luxury design mean to you? The traditional style of decorating a living room is naturally thought to be luxurious – you only have to take a look at a few photos to agree. Through the ages, period homes have retained their natural features such as bay windows and grand fireplaces. These features along with the rich colours, decorative furniture and antique décor pieces all make up to a feeling of opulence and elegance. Let us take a look at some suggestions for setting the scene and creating a wonderfully lavish living room – traditional style.

  • Furniture that was made before the mid-century tended to be elaborately styled with more detailing and lots of sensuous curves. For some people, the essence of luxury is owning a piece of antique furniture such as a sofa or an armchair. If you needed to update your furniture, then look for antique pieces with their ball and claw feet, buttoned backs, wing-backs and wooden frames. Sometimes you can really find a bargain if you are willing to be patient and once you have it there is the possibility to reupholster in your preferred fabric. Failing that, you can buy new pieces which have a traditional design.
  • It must be remembered that you don’t have to change your entire living room to sit in the lap of luxury. Find one piece that you really love and it will instantly give life to the rest of your décor. Your statement piece, whether it be a pair of silk curtains or a Chinese rug, will also act as a focal point to the room and you can slowly make changes to work around it.
  • If you have glamorous accessories then you won’t need to buy a new suite for your living room – simply dress up what you have. One sure-fire way of doing this is by using lavish textiles – golden velvet curtains, wonderful blinds, metallic finishes on bay window curtain poles, mirror frames, a panel of Art Nouveau wallpaper with a reflective surface. If it shines or glimmers then it will add an instant touch of opulence to your living room!
